Dear Parents,

Summer is a time for outdoor games, hot weather fun, and reading beside the pool. Help boost your child's brain by encouraging summer (and year-round) reading.

Reading is the basis of all learning. If a child does not learn to read effectively, performance in other school subjects will likely be impacted. During the summer, plan time each day to read aloud to your child, or ask your child to read aloud to you.

Encourage reading in everyday activities. Even a trip to the grocery store can be a time to read and learn new words! Ask your child to read street signs, billboards, and restaurant menus—
these real-world examples can help build your child's desire to read!

You can foster a love of reading by reading with and to your child, helping your child find books to read again and again, and by setting a positive example by reading on your own!

Make reading an everyday event this summer! Enjoy the adventures that reading has to offer!

Happy summer reading!
